Mayor Quint West, during Thursday’s meeting of the Pine Prairie Village Council, reported one of five pitbulls, which were picked up by the police, has been adopted.
The mayor stated a condition of the adoption is that the dog cannot be adopted by anyone who resides in the village. Also, both parties had to sign an agreement saying the owner agrees for the dog to be adopted and the adopter acknowledges liability.
The village is working on getting the other four dogs adopted pending a hearing.
The council, later in the meeting, granted Mayor West permission to purchase two 2019 Ford Sedan Police Interceptors. As the mayor said, the purchase is “with the understanding the police budget may have to be amended before the end of 2019.”
As the mayor explained, the new units are necessary because “maintenance on the old units was killing us.” He added, “Every week we had at least one or two in the shop.”
The new units have been purchased and are being equipped.”
