At its regular monthly meeting last Thursday, the Pine Prairie Village Council learned of a new nuisance that is affecting residents.
Mayor Quint West reported, “We’re having a few problems with scooters and golf carts after dark at nighttime.” He added, “People are complaining they almost hit” the scooters and the golf carts.
The mayor acknowledged Police Chief LC Deshotel would like to let residents know the police department will be stopping the violators.
Other nuisances such as tall grass, overgrown branches, and abandoned properties were also discussed.
Councilwoman Tammy Hammond reported a group of residents are complaining about the grass. To which Mayor West replied, “They need to realize it has rained everyday for the last month, but we will get to it.”
Councilwoman Hammond further reported a group of residents also plans on attending a future council meeting to address the tall grass. The mayor rebutted, “They can come. You have that group, and I have another group that says this is the best the village ever looked. I felt like we worked hard and cut a lot of grass.”
As for the branches, Councilman Gilbert Bordelon reported he had gone north and south and made a list of the ones needing to be cut. He will go east and west before next month’s meeting. “Some of them are not around the power lines, but some of them are low where you can’t pass emergency vehicles through them.”
Mayor West added he is concerned about school buses passing under the overgrown branches.
Councilwoman Debbie Oge’ brought up Brodie Evans’ property near the Methodist church that was recently cleaned up along with at least five abandoned trailers. Mayor West responded the village will finish cleaning Evans’ place because “he doesn’t have the equipment or the means.” He added, “We’ll have it done before the new year.”
As far as the trailers, the mayor said the village needs to send letters to the property owners.
Mayor West further reported Trick-or-Treat hours for the village are Wednesday, October 31, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and the Christmas parade is set for Sunday, December 9 at 2:00 p.m.
