Evangeline Parish Superintendent of Schools Darwan Lazard announced all four parish schools have made US News & World Report’s “Best High Schools” list for 2021. Mamou High School was ranked the number one school in Evangeline Parish, and comes in at 52 in the state, and 5,232 in the nation. Ville Platte High is number two in the parish, 101 in Louisiana, and 8,170 in the country. Basile High is number three in Evangeline, 132 in the state, and 9,827 in the U.S. Pine Prairie High School is number four in the parish, 154 in Louisiana, and 11,321 in the country.
According to U.S. News & World Report, the list of rankings includes data on nearly 24,000 public high schools in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. Nearly 18,000 schools were ranked on six factors based on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college.
“Our schools continue performing at very high levels,” said Lazard. “This awesome recognition is a testament to our wonderful educators and support staff. I’m grateful to our supervisory personnel for the steady stream of support and resources provided to all students and their teachers and administrators.” He went on to say none of their success would be possible without the support of the members of the school board, and added, “As Superintendent of Schools, I am extremely proud of our school employees and students.”
The Best High Schools rankings, available online only, are produced in conjunction with RTI International, a global research firm. U.S. News doesn’t collect data directly from high schools – all data comes directly from official third-party sources. U.S. News receives AP and IB data directly from the College Board and International Baccalaureate, respectively, for use in the rankings. The state assessment data and graduation rates are from each state, and other data comes from the U.S. Department of Education Common Core of Data.
