The Mamou Town Council held a public hearing for proposed ordinances to lease the nursing home property, increase the salaries of the gas department and water department superintendents and the municipal clerk/treasurer. No public comments were made. The council voted to adopt all ordinances.
Police Chief Brent Zackery said the biggest problem the police station is the phones are outdated. Right now they are only down to three phones. “Soon it’ll be to where we don’t have any phones left,” said Zackery. “They barely work now.” The council will work on updating the phones.
The council heard from Sheriff Charles Guillory and Tax Assessor Chris Guillory at the council’s March 10 meeting. The two were there to pitch the sheriff’s proposed sales tax.
In other business, the council heard from Greta Ardoin, volunteer with Every Paw Animal Rescue (EPAR), about upgrading the dog holding facility in town. That information will be in the Thursday, March 18, edition of the Ville Platte Gazette in an article about animal shelters in the parish.
