With 53 percent of the 2,214 votes cast, Horace Johnson was elected as city marshal for the City of Ville Platte in the runoff election held Saturday, August 15.
Johnson received 1,172 votes and held a narrow lead over Lisa T. Doucet who garnered 1,042 votes.
“First,” Johnson said during his victory speech, “I want to give honor to God Who’s the head of my life. It is with great pleasure to thank the constituents of Ward 1 of Evangeline Parish for electing me to serve in the capacity of city marshal.”
“After 12 years of experience in being a vessel in the marshal’s office,” Johnson continued, “I cannot thank you all enough for providing me with this wonderful opportunity. I do not take this position for granted. Throughout my career, under the guidance and support of my mentors, I’ve learned to focus on a clear line of sight in order to achieve my goals. I’m forever grateful for those life lessons.”
“Again, thank you all for trusting me, and I’m forever grateful. May God bless you. Thank you all so much. Let’s get to work.”
With the victory, Johnson will now finish the unexpired term of the late Ronald T. Doucet. Lisa T. Doucet had been appointed to the position until a special election could be held.
Johnson and Doucet will run again in November for the regularly scheduled election. Also running is Nicole
Snoddy.
In her concession remarks, Doucet said, “Citizens of Ward 1, I want to thank each and every one of you who exercised your right to vote. I hope to meet everyone whom I didn’t get to meet so far as this journey continues.”
She continued, “To my family and to my friends who sacrificed so much of your time to help pray, plan, drive, walk, and clean after meetings, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. As the November election approaches, I hope to have you all bright eyed and willing to start again. My late husband, Ronald T. Doucet, would be proud.”
“Thank you to my staff who helped me daily to run the office efficiently. Again, thank you to all the citizens of Ward 1.”
