Upon the request of Police Chief Brent Zackery, the Mamou Town Council approved new hirings including three part-time patrolmen during its meeting Wednesday.
The chief, when asked by Councilman Robin Young, advised that the additional patrolmen are needed because “I have two full-timers who are going to be leaving for higher paying jobs.” Chief Zackery added that the patrolmen who are leaving “still want to stay part-time if they can.”
One part-time patrolmen hired was Oxzabein Serie at the rate of $7.61 per hour. Chief Zackery reported that he is still employed by the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Another part-time patrolman hired was Hassom Chaudrey at the same rate of $7.61 per hour. Chief Zackery said, “He was already hired by myself and the mayor. He has been working for us for almost a month. He has been doing a good job. I hear good reports from his sergeant and his lieutenant as well.”
The other part-time patrolman hired was Coach Donald Frank, and David Coker was moved by the council from a part-time patrolman to full-time patrolman at the rate of $11.25 per hour.
Also hired by the council, according to the chief’s request, were Lisa Fontenot as a full-time dispatcher at a rate of $8.25 per hour and Kobe Darjean at the rate of $7.25 per hour.
The chief further reported that his department, in the month of August, responded to 303 complaints, one traffic arrest, 21 adult criminals, four accident reports, 223 citations, 11 non-traffic incidents, and one police escort.
