The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development recently installed new, high-tech traffic lights in Ville Platte which will make traffic flow smoother. The lights are located at various intersections of Main Street.
Bill Oliver, district engineer administrator with DOTD, said, “Ville Platte had some fairly old equipment that needed to be updated. The new lights are going to function much better now because they’re new, computerized equipment. They have meters that read the traffic, instead of straight time. You’ll find that traffic flows better, and the lights will make the intersections much more efficient. The traffic lights are also held by metal mast arms instead of wires, which protect against hurricane force winds.”
Mayor Jennifer Vidrine said, “I’ve been working with DOTD a long time to get these new traffic lights. I am thankful and grateful to DOTD for listening and recognizing our needs, not only for aesthetic purposes, but for safety reasons. I’m so happy they are finally here. I am not done. The plan is to get all new, state-of-the-art traffic lights all over the city.”
