History was made in Evangeline Parish Wednesday afternoon when Pamela Hall, newly elected justice of the peace for Ward 3, was sworn in as the parish’s first African-American to serve in the position.
She received her oath of office from 13th Judicial District Court Judge for Division A Gary Ortego in front of a packed town council room in Mamou. Other family and friends were watching the ceremony virtually because of social distance guidelines.
Two days later, on Friday, the honorable Chuck R. West took the oath of office for another six year term as 13th Judicial District Court Judge for Division B. Judge West ran unopposed last fall after also running unopposed in his initial election for judge in 2014. He was sworn in by Mamou Town Magistrate Marcus Fontenot.
