The Gazette earns two awards at LSWA luncheon

The Ville Platte Gazette brought home two awards at the Louisiana Sports Writer’s Association’s Award Luncheon held Saturday in Natchitoches.
Associate Editor Tony Marks took home second place in Outdoors (Open Category) for his feature on a Ville Platte native hunting bears in Canada.
Former Managing Editor Raymond Partsch III took home second place in College Column (Open Category) for his column on the UNO men’s basketball team reaching the NCAA Tournament.
The major award winners went to The Advocate’s Rod Walker for Prep Writer of the Year in Class I, Story of the Year and Sportswriter of the Year, The Houma Courier/Daily Comet’s Kelly McElroy was named Prep Writer of the Year in Class II, The Advocate’s Scott Rabalais was named Columnist of the Year in Class I, while Lake Charles American’s Press’ Scooter Hobbs won Columnist of the Year in Class II.
In the Newspaper Sweepstakes award (where papers receive points on a 3-2-1 basis), The Ville Platte Gazette placed in a tie for 14th in Class II. The Daily Advertiser took top honors following by the Lake Charles American Press and The Houma Courier/Daily Comet which was tied for second. The Baton Rouge Advocate took top honors in Class I.
