A 41-year-old Eunice man is wanted for question by Eunice Police in an early morning shooting, according to Police Chief Chief Randy Fontenot.
Wanted is Billy Thomas, who should be considered armed and dangerous, Fontenot said.
Thomas is wanted for questioning in the shooting of a 43-year-old man shot at 2:24 a.m. Friday in the 400 block of East Vine Avenue, he said.
The victim was shot once in the upper torso with a handgun while he was at the residence of a friend, Fontenot said in a news release.
The victim was flown to a Lafayette hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Fontenot said Thomas has a lengthy record including weapons violations and a 2004 arrest for attempted second-degree murder.
Eunice Police also hold an outstanding arrest warrant for Thomas for charges of domestic abuse battery and home invasion, which occurred June 22, 2018.
Police are asking anyone with information on Thomas’ whereabouts to call them at 337-457-2626 or Crime Stoppers at 337-948-TIPS or on the P3 app at p3tips.com.
St. Landry Parish Crimestoppers is also asking for information about another shooting that occurred in Eunice.
In that shooting, a 26-year-old Eunice man was shot in the chest in a robbery at about 2 a.m. on June 13 in the 200 block of Jelk, Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said.
The victim was outside when he was approached by a black male wearing a hoodie and dreds, Fontenot said.
The man demanded everything from the victim and when the victim said he didn’t have anything, the assailant patted him down and found a wallet, which he took, Fontenot said.
The assailant then shot the victim in the chest with a .380-caliber pistol, he said.
The assailant fled.
The victim went back in to the residence and “woke up everybody and told everybody he had been shot,” Fontenot said.
“It hurts. It hurts,” the victim could be heard saying on the phone as the dispatcher listened, he said.
The victim, who was taken to a Lafayette hospital, is cooperating with police in the investigation, he said.
