EPPJ authorizes seismic testing on parish roads

An issue that was first brought before the Evangeline Parish Police Jury at last month’s meeting was resolved Monday after the public had an opportunity to raise their questions and concerns.
Concerns over the matter of seismic testing, where oil and gas companies look for optimum locations to drill, along parish roads were first voiced by juror Kevin Veillon at last month’s meeting when he questioned the affects on homes that are near the testing sites.
During Monday’s public hearing, Mark Miller on behalf of the company CGG, who will be doing the proposed seismic testing, assured the jurors and the members of the public in attendance that the company does not do large charge sizes. He stated, “It’s one 5 1/2 pound charge at a time. It’s not a whole bunch together.”
He added, “We set off the charge, and we listen to it. Then we do the next one, and the next one, and so on.”
An issue over indebtedness was also raised during the public hearing. Miller advised that the company does provide certificates of insurance against any damages to the landowners upon their request. Miller said, “We don’t have issues like that. We’re a pretty successful
