Election Day is Saturday

Voters in some parts of Evangeline Parish will cast their votes Saturday in elections for several millage renewals.
Voting District No. 2 has a 1.09 millage continuation on the ballot that will generate an estimated $8,900 a year for the next 10 years if approved for the purpose of maintaining and upkeeping cemeteries.
A 1.14 millage continuation is on the ballot in Voting District No. 3 that will generate an estimated $16,300 a year for the next decade if approved, also for the maintenance and upkeep of cemeteries.
A similar 1.04 millage continuation is on the ballot in Voting District No. 7 that would bring in an estimated $5,700 a year for the next decade.
Voters in the Pine Prairie Fire Protection District will vote on a 9.790 millage continuation generating $249,645 each year for the next decade if approved for the purpose of constructing, acquiring, improving, maintaining and operating fire protection facilities and equipment in and for the district, including paying the cost of obtaining water for fire protection purposes and any charges for fire hydrant rentals and services.
The Lone Pine Fire Protection District has a similar 20 mills renewal on the ballot that would generate an estimated $53,000 a year for the next 10 years to be dedicated and used for the purpose of paying costs associated with operating, authority to fund a portion of the avails of the tax into bonds in any manner provided by law, maintaining, renovating, and improving emergency fire protection and related emergency services, and acquiring equipment and furnishings therefor.

Election day for the proposed Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Department parish-wide one-cent sales tax will be Saturday, April 24. According to Registrar of Voters Lucas Buller, the last day to register in person or by mail is Wednesday, March 24 and the last day to register online using the Geauxvote.com website is Saturday, April 3.
If you need to register to vote or make changes to your registration you may do so in person at the Registrar of Voters Office from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday or online at geauxvote.com.
Early voting for the April 24 election will begin Saturday, April 10, and end on Saturday, April 17. Early voting will not be conducted on Sunday, April 11.
Early voting will be conducted at the Registrar’s Office between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.
