During the March 1 meeting of the Evangeline Parish Police Jury, the jury voted to appoint Cheree Eckhart for Evangeline Parish Communication District #1 board member to replace Durwin Carter. Liz Hill, Director of Evangeline Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness/911, was present in the audience to answer questions. She said she talked to several people about applying for the position, but they could not do it due to other commitments and/or medical issues. Eckhart is a police office in Pine Prairie and has been in law enforcement for 20 years. Her husband is Shawn Eckhart, former Chief of Police for Turkey Creek. Liz Hill expressed confidence in Eckhart’s capability to perform as board member for the communications district.
In other business, the jury also voted to help the village of Chataignier by overlaying a portion of Dogwood Street. The village will purchase the cold mix, and the jury will provide the man power and equipment.
