In Louisiana, the Presidential Primary election is set for April 4, 2020. Here are some important dates to remember:
• The deadline to register to vote in person or by mail is March 4.
• The deadline to register to vote through the GeauxVote Online Registration System is March 14.
• Early voting is March 21-28 (except Sunday, March 22) from 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m.
• The deadline to request an absentee by mail ballot is March 31 by 4:30 p.m. You can request an absentee by mail ballot online through our Voter Portal or in writing through your Registrar of Voters Office (other than military and overseas voters).
• The deadline for a registrar of voters to receive a voted mail ballot is April 3 by 4:30 p.m. (other than military and overseas voters).
Also on the ballot, here in Evangeline Parish, is the election for Ville Platte-Ward 1 City Marshal. Qualifying for that election begins January 8, 2020, at the Evangeline Parish Clerk of Court Office and continues through January 10.
The Ville Platte Gazette will publish free announcements for candidates in City Marshal Primary Election.
The announcements are biographical only and limited to 400 words. They will contain no campaign promises, pledges or references to other candidates. That material should be included in paid political advertising.
The announcements are used on a first-come basis and publication date depends on space available.
A photo of the candidate is used if provided.
Announcements are due by December 29, 2019.
Email delivery of the statement and photo is preferred. Include a phone number. Statements and photos should be e-mailed to editor@evangelinetoday.com.
The runoff election is then set for May 9, 2020. Here are some important dates for that election.

• The deadline for a registrar of voters to receive a voted mail ballot is May 8 by 4:30 p.m. (other than military and overseas voters).
