Cook-off is reset for October 24

The first Fins, Feathers, & Fur Cook-Off and Family Day is reset for Saturday, October 24 at Crooked Creek Recreation Area.
The event, which is being hosted by the Crooked Creek Foundation, will offer individuals who love to cook an opportunity to showcase their skills while enjoying the scenery and atmosphere of one of Evangeline Parish’s most popular tourist attractions.
There will be a DJ on site for the event following the cook-off. Then live music from Travis Matte and the Kingpins will begin at 7 p.m., which is being sponsored by the La. Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board, Office of Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser.
Entry fee for the cook-off is $30 per judged dish. This does not include the $2 entry into Crooked Creek, which is owned and operated by the Evangeline Parish Police Jury. Visitors to the event who are not cooking must pay $5 if they wish to taste the food provided by those competing. The park is located just north of Pine Prairie at 1300 Sandy Beach Drive, Ville Platte.
Awards will be presented at 4 p.m. for first, second and third place in each category of Fins, Feathers & Fur. An award will also be presented for taster’s choice.
Competition rules:
· Contestants should pre-register by mail or in person at a cost of $30 per dish, per category. Mail registration forms to Crooked Creek Foundation at 1270 Sawmill Road, Ville Platte, LA 70586.
· All same day registrations will cost $35.00 per dish, per category.
· Same day registrations will be accepted until 11:00 a.m. Booth space will be allotted in order of receipt of payment.
· Check-in and set-up times are 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning, October 24.
· All booths must be set up by 10:30 a.m.
· Review of Rules at 10:30 a.m.
· Contestant must begin cooking by 11 a.m.
· Judges’ samples must be ready for pick up by 2:30 p.m.
· Tasters’ Choice will begin at 3 p.m. to participants with appropriate armband. ($5 for an armband)
· Only participants with armbands may sample food until the winners are named.
· Additional votes may be purchased for $1.00 each by tasters with an armband.
