The Chataignier Village Council learned during its meeting Monday that the village would receive a donation from the state Department of Development and Transportation to be used at the city park.
Mayor Justin Darbonne reported he had been in contact with employees at DOTD’s Vidrine Office who “will give us 400 yards of crushed asphalt.” He added, “We’re going to pour it at the park for our parking lot where we will put the playground equipment.”
The playground equipment, which the mayor mentioned, will be purchased through a grant which the village received. The equipment will include swings for all ages, see-saws, and a merry-go-round.
Mayor Darbonne thanked DOTD, Evangeline Parish Police Juror Rocky Rider, and Evangeline Parish Public Works Director Chester Granger for the donation. He said the asphalt will be hauled and dumped on site for free. “We’ll have a good little parking lot at the baseball park, so we’ll have more events over there.”
He went on to report the village’s fire department is donating equipment including a bandstand to the village to be used at the park. Also donated will be money which will be used to repair the bandstand. He said, “That way we can have some events and raise some money for the village.”
Earlier in the meeting, Village Administrator Gail McDavid reported more problems at the new sewer plant including processing tanks and mini processors that are not functioning and filter systems that are kicking out almost daily. He said, “A contractor has been contacted for these problems as it is still under warranty.”
McDavid then thanked the Town of Church Point for donating a used police unit to Chataignier. As he told the council, the radar, siren, and lights have been installed. Mayor Darbonne then thanked Rider, whose police jury district includes Chataignier, for the paint job on the unit.
