The Village of Chataignier met Tuesday, February 18, to discuss installing security cameras, repairs to the post office/police station roof, and the budget.
The security camera system they want to install has 16 channels and 12 cameras with DVR recording. It will be placed inside and outside of the police station, which will cover the post office, the stop sign, and the library. They can add more cameras if they choose. In other crime-related matters, Mayor Justin Darbonne said he wants to get with the Lafayette crime lab to see what kind of finger print kits to order for the police station.
Village clerk Laken Fontenot said they received a check for parish sales tax collected in the amount of $1,032.18 and the total amount was deposited into the general fund. Rental income collected for the post office rent was $625. They also received $62.19 for beer disbursement tax payments, $2,912.36 for franchise payments, $3,848.01 for property tax payments, $355 for occupational fees, and $0.00 in building permit fees. There were six sewer accounts disconnected, and $4,000.28 collected in traffic citations. All these amounts were for the month of January, 2020.
Village Administrator Gail McDavid reported the sewer plant is still down, which has been the main topic for the last three months. McDavid said it is difficult to get a meeting between the mayor, engineering firm, and other agencies. The filter system is not working. McDavid did make repairs to station three.
He contacted a roofing company out of Lafayette to see about the leaks at the police station and post office building. They told him there are two areas that need to be repaired. Each area would need a 10x10 square foot repair. The estimate is $3,500, but they might be able to come down a little bit on that.
Mayor Darbonne announced the date for the upcoming Easter Eggstravaganza is April 4th at the Village Park, starting at noon. This family event will have Easter eggs for the kids, and they will have hot dogs and drinks.
