Chataignier Mayor Justin Darbonne, during the meeting held Monday, November 23, announced the village’s Christmas parade has been cancelled this year. He also announced village hall remains closed to the public. Residents, however, can be seen on an appointment basis only.
“Please wear a mask,”: the mayor said, “and, if you feel sick, don’t come.”
Village hall will be closed today and tomorrow for the Thanksgiving weekend.
Earlier in the meeting, Mayor Darbonne reported the village used money received from the Local Government Assistance Program (LGAP) to purchase a new side mower and a new 10-foot bush hog. “They both operate very well,” he said. “I think we’re pretty satisfied with our improvements.”
The village still has funds available and will look into putting gravel under the shed to keep the new equipment out of the mud.
Also, the village has applied for funds through the Community Water Enrichment Fund (CWEF) to be used for the village’s water system.
In other business, Councilwoman Carilyn “Tu” Arvie reported she had two extra Thanksgiving food baskets. As a result, all of the village’s sewer customers were entered into a drawing. The winners of the drawing held during the meeting were Deola Richard and Cheryl Zeno.
The food baskets were donated by Paul’s Meat Market in Ville Platte and Lyon’s Market in Mamou and were distributed to needy families in the village.
“I want to thank St. Joseph Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Chataignier for feeding the needy for Thanksgiving,” said Councilwoman Arvie.
