A Ville Platte man was arrested early Wednesday morning by Bunkie Police after officers discovered the suspect to be in possession of what appeared to be drugs during a routine traffic stop.
Arrested was 64-year-old Davis Arclis, as well as a female passenger - 25-year-old Rosaleah Ben.
According to Bunkie Chief of Police Scott Ferguson, Arclis was pulled over by a Bunkie officer for playing loud music on Wednesday, May 8, at 1:58 a.m.
The chief stated that his officer, who was later joined by another officer with the Bunkie Police Department, smelled marijuana in the vehicle, which led him to request to search Arclis’ car.
After Arclis denied having any drugs in the vehicle, the officers noticed something hanging out of Ben’s shorts that resembled a type of bag often used to hold marijuana.
When the officers at the scene searched the vehicle, they found bags of what is believed to be marijuana, as well as what appeared to be powder and crack cocaine and two different pills. They also discovered a firearm and money in the vehicle.
Following the incident, Arclis and Ben were booked in the Avoyelles Parish Jail.
The two individuals were each charged with possession of a schedule I with intent to distribute, possession of a schedule II with intent to distribute, possession of a schedule IV with intent to distribute, and illegal carrying of a firearm.
At this time, both Arclis and Ben remain incarcerated on $30,000 bonds.
The Bunkie law enforcement officers who handled this mater were Officer Sam Cormier and Lieutenant Tim Gilbert.
