Bill filed to require drug tests after serious crashes

A week before the regular session of the state legislature begins, a Bossier City lawmaker pre-filed a bill which would require drug tests after serious traffic accidents.
Republican Representative Raymond Crews said, “The idea is to open up the ability for the investigating officer on the scene to have some more tools in the tool kit. Currently, when you’re in an accident, the only way that happens is if there’s a fatality involved in the scene.”
The idea behind the proposed legislation came from an incident in November 2017 when Katie Grantham was struck and killed in Bossier Parish. The driver of the other vehicle showed no signs of being under the influence and pleaded guilty to running a red light. As a result, he was sentenced to serve 10 days in the parish jail.
