BAYOU CHICOT – Evangeline Parish Sheriff Charles Guillory has reported a man shot his wife then shortly after turned the gun on himself early Wednesday evening September 2.
Deputies responded to the 800 block of Main Street (Mercy Regional Hospital) in reference to a shooting. Ville Platte Police Department was initially called out to the hospital, and after receiving a statement from the victim the case was transferred over to the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office for investigations.
The shooting occurred at a residence on the 2100 block of French Street (Bayou Chicot). Investigators say 47-year-old Brian Paul Soileau shot his 45-year-old wife once in her back then later shot himself.
Soileau’s wife was transported to Mercy Regional Hospital then AirMed to Lafayette General Hospital. She suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Brian was pronounced dead at the scene
Investigators are unsure as to what caused the disturbance which led to the attempted murder suicide. The incident is still under investigation at this time.
