As of the close of business at the end of 2019, the Evangeline Parish Communications District 911 enjoyed an ending fund balance of $1,023,348.00.
“That’s a very solid fund balance for a governmental entity this size,” said Casey Ardoin who took over for Vic Slaven at Kolder, Slaven, and Company, LLC.
“So,” Ardoin added, “financially, the district is in good shape.”
The news came during the board meeting held Wednesday, July 8.
Ardoin began his audit report by declaring the audit is an unmodified opinion meaning it is a “clean audit opinion.”
For the previous fiscal year, the district had cash and interest-bearing deposits in the amount of $739,610.00 and revenue receivable in the amount of $305,331.00. As a result, total assets were $1,044,941.00.
Ardoin pointed out the district did run a deficit over the last fiscal year, but, as he said, “80 percent of the deficit was because of some capital outlay which consisted of a tower upgrade and a dispatcher station.”
He went on to say a deficit like that is “going to happen when you have years you need to invest in infrastructure or capital assets. You’re going to run in a deficit, but it’s because you’re buying something that’s going to last for years to come.”
All in all, according to Ardoin, the district “had a good year.”
At the beginning of the meeting, board chairman Pat Derouselle welcomed new Evangeline Parish Sheriff Charles Guillory.
Derouselle said, “We want to have a great working relationship with you. We know you are starting this journey, and we will definitely be there for you to help you in anyway we can. We will make sure to help you get this parish in the direction it needs to go.”
