Staff Report

Because of rising costs of materials, the Ville Platte Gazette will have to raise the annual subscription rates by $5 starting on October 1.
“The paper has not raised subscription rates in over five years, and we were trying to keep the rates the same,” Publisher Garland Forman said. “However, our printing costs, fuel costs, and even garbage pickup costs have risen substantially in the last 12 to 18 months. It left the paper no choice but to raise subscription rates plus rate hikes on other items to help offset the rising costs.”
Starting October 1, the yearly cost of a subscription by carrier will be $ 68 for a year; $51.20 for six months and $38.60 for three months. Senior citizens, age 55 or older, will pay $53 for a yearly subscription or $40 for a six month subscription.
Subscriptions mailed will be $83.75 for a yearly subscription, $61.70 for a six month subscription and $41.75 for a three-month subscription. Digital subscriptions will remain the same at $42 for a yearly subscription, $26.25 for a six-month subscription and $15 for a three month subscription. The increase for current subscribers will become effective when they receive their renewal cards over the next 12 months.
“We understand the rising costs of almost everything in our daily lives is hard,” Forman continued. “The Gazette is trying to keep the rate hike to our subscribers at a minimum. This will allow us to keep providing the best possible news, sports, and lifestyles coverage to the people of Evangeline.”
