At the Library

The Library Board of Control will meet on Thursday, July 14, at noon in the multipurpose room of the main library in Ville Platte. The agenda is posted on our webpage and on the entry door. The public is invited to attend.
Summer Reading fun continues this week with The Evangeline Soil and Water Conservation providing programs at the main library and all branches on the same date and times as last week: Tuesday, July 12, Turkey Creek branch at 10 a.m. and the Chataignier branch at 2 p.m.; Wednesday, July 13, Pine Prairie branch at 10 a.m. then the Mamou branch at 2 p.m.; and on Thursday, July 14, the Basile branch at 10 a.m. then the Ville Platte main at 2 p.m. Once again, thank you to our sponsors for continuing to help us make this the best summer ever: Friends of the Library, State Farm Eric Gil, Bon Aimee’ Insurance and Appraisal Services, Lakeview Park and Beach, Healthworks Rehab, Basile State Bank, Lyons Market, Paul’s Meat Market, Vidrine Ace Hardware, Ardoin’s Funeral Homes, Buller Family Dentistry, JD Bank, Peter Strawitz Edward Jones, Reed’s Pharmacy, Investar Bank, and Evangeline Parish Farm Bureau.
The Evangeline Historical and Genealogical Society will meet on Saturday, July 16, at 9:30 a.m. in the multipurpose room of the main library in Ville Platte. Their guest speak will be Shera Broussard LaPointe who will share DNA stories. The public is invited to attend.
The Turkey Creek branch library will host a Happy Retirement event from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, July 22, for our longtime fellow employee Tina King. The public is invited to attend to celebrate her 22 years of service!
The new Evangeline Parish Writers Guild will meet on Saturday, July 23, at 10 a.m. at the main library to meet and organize. All published authors, aspiring writers, and anyone interested in learning more about the organization is invited.
New: On the last Tuesday of each month, the main library in Ville Platte will host a grief counseling opportunity at 2 p.m. for anyone in need. This counseling will be free of charge and is offered by the Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care. The counselor is Delilah Elmore. Next date is Tuesday, July 26, at 2 p.m. in the genealogy room on a first come first serve basis.
