Here’s a super, big thank you to Cabot Corporation for gifting a brand new Little Free Library to the main library in Ville Platte! We are thrilled and will keep it full of books for the pleasure of our public… especially the traveling public who visit our parks and festivals! Please come by and “take a book then leave a book!” It’s a marvelous experience of sharing.

On December 1, at the main library and all branches, our Toys for Tots program will begin. New, unwrapped kids gifts can be dropped off, and they will be delivered to the Mamou Police Department for distribution to needy families. This year there is an added incentive for patrons who have fines on their accounts. We will waive up to $10 of a fine with the donation of a child’s gift. (One gift per account). Also new this December at the main library in Ville Platte a new incentive for young readers to continue reading through the holidays is planned! Beginning on December 6, through December 20, at the Ville Platte Main library only, a child can pick one present from under our Library Christmas Tree when they check out five books. (Note: only one present per child, and the child must be present. This incentive will continue as long as supplies last.)
The Basile branch library is offering a French Table every other Tuesday at 9 a.m. The December dates are December 1 and December 15. Additionally, its story hour is every other Thursday at 10 a.m., and those dates are December 2 and December 16. The December 26 Story Hour will be very special and include Santa!! The Mamou branch offers Coffee and Conversation at 8 a.m. on Mondays and Fridays. The Pine Prairie branch Coffee Club meets every morning, and, on Wednesdays at 9 a.m., they offer a bingo game too. At Ville Platte Main, the Quilting Club meets on Thursdays at 1 p.m. in the multipurpose room.
