Interim CEO at Savoy Medical Center

The Board of Directors of Savoy Medical Center is pleased to announce that Gene Burge will assume the role as Interim CEO at Savoy Medical Center effective March 11th. The native of Basile and is married to Celeste Fournerat Burge. They have two children together, Lindsay and Jordan, and 6 grandchildren.

Gene has had many roles at Savoy Medical Center in his 40 plus years, including CRNA, Director of Anesthesia and was the CEO of Savoy Medical Center from December of 2016 until his retirement in 2021. Upon his retirement in 2021 Gene joined the Board of Directors at Savoy Medical Center and has also continued to work PRN in the surgery department as a CRNA

As interim CEO, Burge, who obtained his undergraduate degree from Ottawa University in 1998 and MBA in 2012, has short term and long term goals for Savoy Medical Center. Burge said the immediate goal is to “continue improvement of finances, continued improvement within the physical plant and equipment updates, as well as continued improvement of patient and associate satisfaction.”

As for long-term goals, Burge said “I want to continue to strengthen the collaboration between Savoy Medical Center and CHRISTUS, develop succession planning involving providers (recruitment and retention of physicians) and hospital leadership, and grow existing services for our patients, especially in our Rural Health Clinics. Our number one goal is to operate Savoy Medical Center in a manner that inspires community trust and loyalty and develop effective partnerships with other local and regional health care systems using the community’s needs as a guide. Savoy Medical Center has seen tremendous growth in the past 10 years and I am proud to be able to come in and keep that momentum going until the Board of Directors and CHRISTUS can find the right candidate to lead Savoy Medical Center.”
