(Editor’s Note: The following article was submitted by Patricia Duplechin, resident activity director at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Ville Platte. This column runs every Sunday in The Gazette.)
October is the official month for residents’ rights to be acknowledged. It is an annual event designated by the National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care to honor residents living in a long=term care facility. It is an opportunity to focus on dignity and respect for each individual resident.
The law requires nursing homes to promote and protect the rights of all residents and to enhance the quality of life for those individuals. It is a time for family members and staff, ombudsmen and other advocates to emphasize the importance of quality of all aspects of the residents’ lives.

The staff of Heritage Manor wishes a Happy Birthday this week to Ammich Stagg.
Flu shots are being given to residents. If you have a loved one that hasn’t signed up for the vaccine yet, please call or come by to fill out the consent form at the nurse’s station.
The staff of Heritage Manor sends get well wishes to all of our loved ones in the hospital.

Activities this week include mass, horseshoes, in room visits, bedside rosary, pokeno, jingo, group exercise, hot dollar, beauty shop, arts and crafts, ball toss, manicures and Silver Eagle social outing.
