Friday, June 5, marked the deadline for applications to be submitted for the new superintendent of the Evangeline Parish School District. All applications were mailed to a post office box, which was opened by Evangeline Parish School Board President Bobby Hamlin and Vice President Sheila Joseph on Tuesday, June 9. Applications were received from the following six applicants: Dr. Stranton Lawrence, Liz Chatelain, Cherie Fontenot, Melvin Hollins, Escom Pitre, and Rico Guillory. Dr. Lawrence has since withdrawn his application. The list of candidates was then certified by board attorney Jon Guice, and applications from any uncertified candidates will disqualified. The Evangeline Parish School Board will hold a special meeting tonight at 6 p.m. to review the applications, select applicants to be interviewed, and discuss and determine date/time for interviews and interview procedures.
