Chataignier spreads Christmas cheer

Christmas events in Evangeline Parish began on Sunday, December 1, with the Chataignier Christmas Parade. Lineup began at Carver Elementary School, and the parade ended at the village hall, where Santa Claus was available for photographs. The village Christmas Tree was also lit following the parade. In the top photo are the Beta Club students from Chataignier Elementary as they ride in the parade. In the bottom right photo is Beverly Miller, who was selected as this year’s grand marshal of the parade. Christmas events in the parish will continue over the next few weeks. Pine Prairie will hold its parade on Saturday, December 7, at 4 p.m. Santa will be at the gazebo following the parade. The day begins at 12 noon with a vendor market, live music, and drinks and food. The Mamou parade will be Sunday, December 8, at 6 p.m. It will end at the Mamou Recreational Complex, where cookies with Santa will be available along with carolers and a Christmas movie. The Christmas in the Country Trail Ride will then take place on December 14, in Mamou. On the same day will be the Turkey Creek Christmas Parade at 11 a.m. The Christmas events will end with the Ville Platte Christmas Parade on Sunday, December 15, at 5:30 p.m. (Photos courtesy of Sherelene Johnson and Carmen Faul)
