To the Citizens of Ville Platte,
The safety and well-being of our community are of paramount importance, and recent incidents of
criminal activity within our city have brought these concerns to the forefront."
Due to the recent increase in criminal activity within the City of Ville Platte, and after hearing the
multiple concerns from citizens and from local business owners, my office has reached out to the to
the Evangeline Parish Sheriff ‘s Office & City Marshall’s Office to collaboratively work with of City
Of Ville Platte Police Department in addressing this pressing situation.
To immediately address the concerns of our citizens and business owners, my office, along with the
Ville Platte Police Department in collaboration with the Sheriff’s Department, City Marshall’s Office,
will be increasing law enforcement presence within the City Limits of Ville Platte for the next few
months. This heightened police activity will involve combination of officers from the Ville Platte City
Police Department, City Marshall’s Office and Sheriff’s Office addressing all policing and patrolling
throughout the City of Ville Platte, during evening and early morning hours, addressing any and all
crimes while ensuring the safety of our Citizens and Business Owners rest at home without the fear of
potential threats to their homes and or businesses
In addition to the increased police presence, the City of Ville Platte will be working closely with all of
our local business owners to explore further measures we can take as a community to address the
growing concerns about criminal activity.
While these actions represent the first steps in addressing the immediate issues, we also recognize the
need to confront the underlying factors that contribute to this unwelcome criminal behavior.
Therefore, Myself, all Council Members, Al Perry Thomas (Chief Of Police), Gregory Vidrine (City
Court Judge), Nicole Snoody (City Marshall), Deidra Godfrey (City Prosecutor), Chris Ludeau
(City’s Legal Advisor) will be meeting with our State Senator Heather Cloud, State Representative
Rhonda Butler, Attorney General Liz Murrell, and a representative from Governor Jeff Landry
Office, State Police Representative, Trent Brignac (District Attorney), Chuck West & Marcus
Fontenot (District Judges), to develop an effective strategy to combat juvenile crime in our
community. We have seen similar initiatives succeed in neighboring parishes, and we are optimistic
that our collaboration with these officials will produce positive outcomes for Ville Platte.
Although I am not a law enforcement officer, as mayor, I have a duty to put the people of Ville Platte
first, and that is precisely what I aim to do with these actions. I understand that crime poses a serious
threat to the businesses our city desperately needs and that some of these recent crimes are being
committed by youth from both our community and neighboring areas.
To the citizens of Ville Platte: if you see something, say something. There is no reason for juveniles to
be out on the streets at all hours of the night, and addressing this issue starts at home. With this being
said the City of Ville Platte will be strictly enforcing the City’s municipal ordinance related to Curfew
For Minors. I fully support our local law enforcement and trust they will remain vigilant in restoring
peace and order to our wonderful city.
