On February 01, 2022 an incident occurred at the Y-NOT stop in Vidrine
Louisiana in reference to an officer within the Turkey Police
Department. It was said From the 911 operator stated that the officer
was threatening individuals with a firearm and that they needed
assistance. The Assistant Chief of Police of Turkey Creek overheard the
call over the radio and went to assist. Upon arrival at the scene Officer
Zach Johnson was in the ambulance getting treated for a possible
diabetic shock. Officer Johnson’s blood sugar level was at an alarming
rate of 42 when his normal blood sugar level is usually at 80-120.
Acadian ambulance operator advised Assistant Chief Lemaire to
purchase some apple juice from the store because they used up all
their glucose medicine on the scene. Assistant Chief Lemaire purchased
the juice then returned to the ambulance. According to Acadian
ambulance operators, Officer Johnson’s blood sugar was so low that he
was close to diabetic shock and could have caused delirium. It is
unknown of all of the facts of the case but Assistant Chief Lemaire
openly stated that Officer Johnson’s persona wasn’t his usual before he
left for the day on his shift. Assistant Chief Lemaire asked Officer
Johnson before he left the station if he was ok due to noticing a
difference in Officer Johnson. Officer Johnson stated that his sugar may
be dropping and that he had snacks in the car and would be stopping to
get something to drink at the store. Sheriff Guillory knows of the
medical condition that Officer Johnson was facing after the incident
occurred but refuses to acknowledge these facts or take into
consideration. This incident is still under investigation by the Sheriff’s
office but we feel as a department that Officer Johnson should have a
voice in this matter.
