Mamou police assists in seizing devices

The Mamou Police Department, on July 6, was contacted by an investigator with the DuPage County AG office, of Illinois, to assist in an investigation of a Mamou resident who was suspected of interrupting multiple open court proceedings, which were being conducted over Zoom, with pornographic images and videos. In the early morning hours of August 15, the Mamou Police Department, working in conjunction with the Illinois DuPage County State Attorney’s Office and Louisiana Department of Justice Cyber Crime Unit, secured a search warrant and searched a home located in the Town of Mamou. During the search, multiple computers and electronic devices were seized. The suspect was then discovered to be a 16-year-old juvenile. No arrest has been made pending further examination of the items seized in the search. In a separate incident, on July 27, at or about 11 p.m., Oshimaine Keondez Thomas, along with two unidentified white male suspects, were invited into a home located on East Street. Upon entry into the residence, Thomas along with the two white male suspects proceeded to rob the occupants of the residence at gunpoint. An AR-15 was one of the items taken in the robbery. Thomas and the white male suspects fled the scene and were seen heading south on East Street while driving a four-door white sedan bearing Texas plates. Thomas has been charged with armed robbery and aggravated second degree battery. The Mamou Police Department is working with the US Marshal’s office to apprehend the suspect because it is believed he may have fled out of the state. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Thomas or the identity of the two male suspects are urged to call the Mamou Police Station. Remember, all callers remain anonymous. Later, on August 7, the Mamou Police Department received a call about a central A/C unit that was stolen from Iron Empire. Video footage was obtained, and the suspects were identified as Jason Lynn Richard, of 900 Mulberry, and Shawn Seneca, of 5527 Veterans Memorial Highway. Chopped up pieces of the air-conditioner that were intended to be sold by the suspects for scrap were recovered. Both suspects were located and arrested on charges of criminal mischief, felony theft, and criminal damage to property over $1,000. Days later, on August 17, at 9:24 p.m., Sam Tate, of 705 Chestnut Ave, in Mamou, walked into the Mamou Police Station while sweating profusely and dressed only in a T-shirt and underwear. As officers began speaking to Tate, he turned around without warning, walked out of the police station, and drove off in a parked unit of one of the on duty officers. Officers then pursued Tate to his residence where he was arrested and later taken to Savoy Medical Center to receive treatment for being under the influence of crystal methamphetamines. He was released into the custody of New Horizons per an order from Savoy Medical Center ER physician where he is currently receiving treatment. Tate has been charged with one count of theft of a motor vehicle and two counts of resisting an officer. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
