Mamou — On April 24, 2026, at approximately 4:50 a.m., the Mamou Police Department
received a 911 call from the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office regarding a vehicle crash
involving a pedestrian in the area of 8th Street and South Street.
Upon arrival, officers located a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle in the 700 block of
8th Street. Emergency medical services responded and transported the individual to a local
medical facility, where she later succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision.
The pedestrian has been identified as 51 year old Crystal R. Edmunson, who was visually
impaired.
The driver remained on scene and cooperated with officers during the investigation. The driver
was determined not to be impaired at the time of the incident.
This crash remains under active investigation by the Mamou Police Department.
