Sheriff Charles R. Guillory, of the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office releases the following:
On the 19 th of October 2021 the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Departments K-9 Unit stopped a car on
main street. When the Agent made contact with the driver there was a lot movement in an effort to
conceal items. K- 9 Diego was deployed and gave a positive alert to possible presence of narcotics.
There was a search of the car and the following occurred.

Possession of Methamphetamine
Later on, the 20 th of October the Criminal Patrol Unit stopped a car on North Soileau street for a traffic
violation. Upon coming into contact with the driver and occupants, there was a strong smell of
Marijuana. Agents conducted an interview and the following occurred.

He was cited and released for
Possession of Marijuana.
Madison Lynn Armand

She was cited and released for
Possession of Marijuana
Then again on the 20 th of October 2021 the Criminal Patrol Unit was in the Basile area, when they
stopped a car for a traffic violation. Agents then made contact with the driver and sole occupant. Upon
approaching the car, they could see narcotics in plain view. This led to a large number of narcotics
being recovered. This led to the following arrest.

On the 21 st of October 2021 the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Division, conducted a
search warrant on a residence located at 352 Johnson Road in Ville Platte. Upon Agents entering the
home they located illegal narcotics. Also, why agents were present there was a white pickup truck that
arrived. Agents made contact with the occupants and it was discovered that they were there to drop off
a large amount of narcotics. This resulted in the following be arrested.

Possession with intent to distribute Fentanyl OVER 43 grams
Possession with intent to Distribute Methamphetamine
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
James Kevin Chavis
112 Chachier Road lot 4
Church point. LA
B/M Age 41
He was charged with
Possession with intent to distribute Fentanyl over 43 grams
Possession with intent to distribute Methamphetamine

He also had 2 outstanding warrants
On the 22 nd of October 2021 the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Department was working security at the
Cotton Festival. Deputies were told of a subject who was causing a disturbance in an area of the fair
ground. When deputies made contact with the subject, they could see a plastic bag sticking out the
corner of his jacket pocket. Upon further inspection it was determined to be Marijuana. This led to the
following action.

On the 23 rd of October 2021 the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Department responded to a wreck in the
Basile area. Upon arrival Deputies found a truck in a field. While they were conducting a crash
investigation, they located illegal narcotics. The following action took place.
