The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office became the only law enforcement agency in the parish to employ a drone for aerial assistance through a grant opportunity from Kinder Morgan.
Sheriff Charles Guillory, on Thursday, January 18, said about the drone, “It’s going to aid our department greatly. I’m just amazed what they can do and the capability that it’s going to help the sheriff’s office. It’s going to enhance our job a lot.”
As the sheriff explained, the drone will assist his deputies with solving crimes, search and rescue efforts, and searching for escaped inmates. “I’m just excited to use it,” he expressed.
Sheriff Guillory went on to say, “This drone is going to be a great asset to our department and the people of Evangeline Parish.”
Three deputies, according to Sheriff Guillory, will initially go through training to operate the drone. Additional deputies could get trained at a later date.
The sheriff also expressed gratitude to Kinder Morgan for the grant and expressed, “I want to thank Kinder Morgan for giving the grant to get this. It’s a great asset, and I can’t imagine what it can do. We’re really going to get a lot of use out of it. I’m just excited to use it on the first case.”
Shannon Trahan, operations supervisor for Kinder Morgan, said, “I feel like it’s going to be a great asset with the opportunity for search and rescue from afar. The infrared abilities of the unit is pretty impressive as well, which will help with night rescues and night chases. It’s a great opportunity to be here, and it’s great to work for a company, like Kinder Morgan, that enjoys giving back to their local communities in which they operate.”
