Chief Neal Lartigue reports multiple shootings and an arrest

On October 14, 2022 at approximately 1:15 a.m. p.m.Officers with the Ville Platte Police Department responded to the area of Chataignier and Main where shots were being fired. Upon arrival it was determined that multiple people were injured during the shooting. According to Officers at the scene, one person was shot in the back area of the head, one person was shot in the jaw and two others were injured in the arm.

Chief Lartigue stated that the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Deputies were assisting that evening for the Ville Platte homecoming game and were able to assist at the scene during the shooting incident. Multiple people were interviewed.

The victim of the gunshot wound to the head was transported by Acadian Ambulance and later air lifted to Lafayette where he is currently in critical condition.

Arrested was Jamarcus Ceaser, age 24 of 1040 North Vivian Street, Eunice. Ceaser was charged with attempted second degree murder. He remains incarcerated with no bond.

Chief Lartigue stated that more arrests will follow as the investigation continues.
