Over the past week, the Mamou Police Department has responded to two separate incidents regarding domestic abuse and stolen property. The department is still investigating the stolen property incident, however, both incidents have led to an arrest.
The police department, in a press release on the domestic disturbance, reported, “On September 23, the Mamou Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance in the 500 block of 3rd Street.”
The press release continued as follows: “Officers were attempting to remove Floyd Lewis from the residence who was refusing to leave. Officers further investigated the domestic complaint and discovered Lewis had assaulted his pregnant ex girlfriend with a handgun.”
“While she was attempting to leave from the residence, Lewis fired a single shot from a 9mm handgun that was later located by officers in the area where Lewis was. Along with the handgun was the victim’s purse Lewis had taken to try and keep the victim from leaving.”
“Lewis was booked into the Mamou Jail for remaining after being forbidden, aggravated assault with a firearm, illegal possession of a firearm, illegal discharge of a firearm, and domestic abuse. Lewis has no bond as of this time.”
According to a separate press release from the department regarding the stolen property, “On September 24, officers with the Mamou Police Department received a complaint of a stolen cargo trailer from a local business.”
The press release continued as follows: “Officers began the investigation and located a similar trailer at a nearby residence just outside the city limits. Mamou Police, with the assistance of the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office, were then able to get consent to search the grounds of the residence located at 1409 Barry Manuel Road, where the similar trailer was located.”
“Officers discovered the trailer was in fact the stolen trailer at this address. The resident, Alex Granger, is currently being held at the Evangeline Parish Jail for separate charges and will be charged for possession of stolen property. This investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected.”
