On January 8, 2019 at approximately 10:30 a.m. a delivery driver parked outside of the Ville Platte Police Department to deliver a package. At the same time a white male entered the police department to turn himself in. It is unclear why the white male was attempting to turn himself in as the Ville Platte Police Department has no outstanding warrant for the suspect.
As the delivery driver delivered the package the white male left the lobby of the building and entered the delivery truck, located the keys for the delivery truck in the console and drove away. Officers and Detectives with the Ville Platte Police Department along with Deputies of the City Marshal’s Office were notified to be on the lookout for the vehicle. The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office, St. Landry Sheriff’s Office and the Louisiana State Police and Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office were notified as the vehicle left the city limits, crossed the Evangeline Parish line into St. Landry Parish and then continued to I-49.
As all departments responded, the delivery truck was located in a median near mile marker 40 on the interstate. Kamren Gautreaux 23, of 1081 Jeffery Street, Ville Platte was arrested at the scene by the Louisiana State Police. All charges are being issued through the Louisiana State Police for this incident.
