St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Grand Coteau was the setting for a lovely 6 p.m. ceremony on Saturday, May 16, 2026, uniting Anastacia Gabrielle Flores and Hunter Lane Fontenot in holy matrimony with Father Stephen Pellesier officiating.

Ceremony is held honoring Darwan Lazard

A ceremony marking three milestones was held Friday, June 26, at the Ville Platte Civic Center. The ceremony was held to honor Reverend Darwan Lazard for his birthday, his retirement as Evangeline Parish Superintendent of Schools, and his reception of an honorary doctorate degree.
FESTIVAL DEDICATION - July 4, 1996 - A special ceremony was held at noon Saturday to officially open the 1996 Smoked Meat Festival. An honor guard stood at attention while Korean War Veterans were honored (inset). A flag and wreath were laid out by members of the Vietnam Veterans of America in memory of all POW/MIAs. Miss USA Ali Landry, above right, welcomed all visitors and was presented a key to the city by Ville Platte Mayor Bennett Baquet, above left. (Gazette photos by Roland Manuel)
