Seven Basile girls were officially crowned as Miss Basile title-holders on Sunday, April 11 at an afternoon tea at the home of Peter and Regina Berzas, the parents of the outgoing Miss Teen Basile Cora Berzas.
The new Miss Basile Court members were selected in a photogenic contest this year due to COVID-19 restrictions with their identities made known when The Basile Weekly newspaper published the winning photographs in its March 11 issue.
The newly-crowned queens are as follows:
Vivian Deshotel is the new Miss Basile. She is a 17-year-old junior at Basile High and the daughter of Michelle LaFleur and Robin Deshotel.
Briley Crochet is the winner of the Miss Teen Basile title. She is a 16-year-old sophomore at Basile High and the daughter of Kenny and Jata Crochet.
Hillari Shuff holds the Junior Teen crown. She is a 14-year-old freshman at Kinder Jr. High and the daughter of Shari Fontenot and Scottie Shuff.
Garryn Ivory is the newly-named Deb Miss Basile. She is a 12-year-old sixth grader at Basile High and the daughter of Jeremy and Jennifer Ivory.
Lillian Veillon is the Junior Deb Miss Basile crown winner. She is a nine-year-old third grader at W. W. Stewart Elementary and the daughter of Tracy Veillon.
Marlee Faul is Little Miss Basile. She is an eight- year-old third grader at W. W. Stewart Elementary and the daughter of Chad and Kyla Faul.
Saige Chambers is the new Tiny Miss Basile. She is a five-year-old pre-Kindergarten student at W. W. Stewart Elementary and is the daughter of Martin and Kirstie Chambers.
Present at the tea to pass on their crowns were Alaina Denette, Miss Basile; Cora Berzas, Teen Miss Basile; Hannah Aguillard, Jr. Teen Miss Basile; Garryn Ivory, Jr. Deb Miss Basile; and Layla Lebleu, Little Miss Basile.
Other guests included mothers, grandmothers, and aunts of the new court as well as the mothers of the outgoing queens.
Jata Crochet, pageant director, served as hostess along with Mrs. Berzas, who not only provided her home for the event, but also created and furnished all of the refreshments, tableware, decorations, and unique keepsakes.
