All of us can easily point to a day when we faced some crisis. I remember the day when my wife and I had to make the decision to unplug our son from the life support system he was on. Then there was the day I went for an angiogram and came out with a triple by-pass. For you, it might have been the death of your spouse or the loss of your job or a divorce, what have you. You know the early Christians were persecuted even though they fled. Wherever they went spreading the Gospel, persecution followed them. Many gave up their lives for the Gospel. They became martyrs.
God never promised this life would be without trials or afflictions. Nothing in the Bible, noting in the nature of God suggests that bad things won’t happen in the course of life. If you live long enough, some things will, in fact, nearly crush you. But I want you to remember this: the worst day of your life does not change the nature of God, or the nature of God’s love for you.
In the times of trials, simply remember who God is, and you’ve begun the survival process. God says He is the great I Am. That’s good enough for me. Why? It’s because I have put my faith in Him, and I realize I am His to do with as He sees fit. But I also realize the Love He has for me, for His word tells me He gave His only begotten son to die in my place on a cross so that I might have my sins washed away and my relationship to the father restored. He means only good for me in my life, even if I am too thick-headed sometimes to see it. He is everything to me. The question is, “Who is God to you?”
