Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 1:11-12 (KJV), “Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles. For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.” The grounds of the apostle’s confidence, even when he faced angry mobs who stoned him, the schemes of the Pharisees, ship wrecks, and all the trials of his life he underwent, was his trust in the Lord.
The question is, what is it Paul entrusted to Christ? The answer is that Paul committed himself, his life, his worldly possession, his salvation, his joy, his eternal happiness to the Lord. All these things he committed to God, content to lose sight of them for a while, knowing he would receive them all from the hands of God in the day of Christ, that day when he would stand face to face with the Lord at the judgement seat of Christ. He placed his soul in the hands of Christ, with the reassurance of its perfect safety. We too must deposit our souls with Christ, for He is more than able to keep us.
