I remember once seeing a bumper sticker that said, “How many times can I sin and still get to Heaven?” That’s a silly question, isn’t it? But, let’s imagine for a minute that there is an answer- a specific number. If the Bible said you could commit up to 1,000 sins and still go to Heaven, there are a lot of people who wouldn’t stop until they got to 999. Am I right? Because even though they don’t articulate it exactly this way, their attitude is, “What’s the minimum I can do to be a Christian? Can you give me a checklist?” That’s because a checklist doesn’t require all of us, it only requires part of us. For example, a checklist may require our hands and our feet, it may require our eyes and our ears, but it doesn’t require our heart, our passion, our intensity- because these are things a checklist can’t measure. But, these are things that God can measure, and this is what He is looking for in those who call themselves believers in Christ. God is not interested in seeing how little we can do to get to Heaven; He is looking for people who will commit their all for Him for the propagation of the Gospel and the building of the Kingdom. Instead of looking to see how little we can do, we should be committing our all because that’s what Christ did for us. He committed His all, His very life, so that you and I could be reconciled to the Father.
