Senior loneliness impacts health and quality of life. Shrinking social circles, poor health, life changes and even transportation challenges can mean isolation for older adults. It can have devastating results in the elderly. Loneliness can cause high blood pressure, depression and even a higher risk for a stroke.
To improve being lonely, get socially connected in some form. It will help to maintain thinking skills and slow cognition decline. Phone calls to family and friends are nice, but in person interactions are important. Get involved in a volunteer program, church events or senior nights out with a friend or group. A senior living setting, such as nursing homes or a senior living community, make so many ways to meet people and have a rich and incredible life change.
