Each year in May, the Administration for Community Living leads the nation’s observance of Older Americans Month. It is a month-long observance in the U.S. devoted to celebrating older Americans and their contributions and raising awareness of issues related to age and aging.
Our older generation of Americans are cherished and invaluable. They deserve our utmost respect, gratitude and appreciation. We are drawn to their wisdom, spirit and experiences. They have taught us patience, endurance and overcoming life’s greatest challenges. They have learned sacrifice in times of hardship and have seen many challenges in their lifetime. They continue to pray for the needy and the sick, mentor the younger generation and offer profound perspective and insight for the years of life’s lessons. Many face hardships of loneliness and social isolation.
How appropriate it is for the month of May to be National Nursing Home Week Awareness. We have many fun events planned, including dress out days, cookouts, community outings and special meals planned throughout the week, beginning on Mother’s Day, May 14.
