Heritage Manor News: October events planned

The month of October is filled with festivals. It is the 10th month of the year and has 31 days. It is a month of preparation for winter. Children look forward to October for Halloween, which falls at the end of the month.
Oktoberfest is celebrated all around the world and is known as the beer festival. It has gained popularity around the globe, but the true Oktoberfest is located in Munich, Germany, where the festival has been held since 1810.
Columbus Day is celebrated on October 11. It is an annual Federal holiday that occurs on the second Monday in October each year. It became a federal holiday in 1937, by a proclamation issued by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. It commemorates the voyage and landing of Italian explorer Christopher Columbus in the “new world” on October 12, 1492.
The Cotton Festival is a favorite event among many from the local area towns. It will be held October 20-24, at the Northside Civic Center.
