In all career fields, an individual must possess certain character traits to be successful. For example, a salesman needs to be charming and persuasive in order to produce sales, while a lawyer needs to be tenacious and thorough in the courtroom while defending clients.
The same logic applies in the healthcare industry, especially in long-term care. Because you are caring for others, in more ways than one, it is very clear it takes a special type of person to work in places such as this, regardless of your position.
Traits that must be instilled in healthcare workers are patience, understanding, empathy and compassion. It is not just a job you show up for. It is a calling. You either have it or you don’t.
