Catholic Daughters, Court Sacred Heart of Jesus #1674, met at the Family Life Center at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7. The meeting, with 34 members in attendance, was jam packed with ideas and activities for October, as well as plans for a productive November. Newcomers joining us in October were Carla Lafleur and Phyllis Stromer. Lacey Rose was visiting.
Prior to the start of the meeting, our semi-annual audit was conducted by District Deputy Yvonne Normand from Opelousas. No discrepancies were found, and she complemented our officers on having complete and thorough records.
Our annual Pumpkin Decorating with the residents of Heritage Manor was discussed. Although we cannot go into the facility, Ms. Pat Duplechin, Activities Director, will still be decorating with the residents. We will, however, bring pumpkins, decorations, and some snacks to Ms. Pat for the event.
The main topic of discussion was the Bake Sale which we held on the weekend of Catholic Daughter Sunday, October 18. It was decided that we would sell freshly baked sweets at all four of our Catholic Churches: Sacred Heart, Belaire Cove, St. Joseph’s and Our Lady Queen of All Saints. Members signed up for Masses and items to bring.
We voted to provide a meal for the Youth Group on Tuesday, October 27. We decided we would bring spaghetti, garlic bread, dessert and water. This is a new project for us, and one that we plan to continue.
As part of our Circle of Love Project, we selected Nikolai Lance Breaux as our CDA Kid to sponsor. His name and bio will be submitted as a candidate for the Louisiana State Catholic Daughters CDA Kid recipient for 2021.
Plans for November include a guest speaker from the New Life Pregnancy Center in Mamou, flowers and a rosary at Lost Cemetery in Point Blue, Memorial Mass for our Deceased Catholic Daughters, and participation in the Library Book Fest, to name a few.
We celebrated October birthdays for Virginia Guillory, Faye Lafleur, Connie Veillon, Rita Fontenot, and Darnell Firmin with the gift of a birthday cake made by Fannie.
