Mamou splits baseball, softball in 4-3A opener

By: RHETT MANUEL Sports Editor PORT BARRE – It continues to be a tale of two seasons when it comes to Mamou baseball and softball. The Lady Demons continued their great season with a 7-3 win over Port Barre while in baseball, the Green Demons lost by a 20-2 margin.

Trojan softball clashes with Mamou

By: RHETT MANUEL Sports Editor There’s not much more you could’ve done to build up Monday’s softball matchup between Mamou and Sacred Heart. After all, they and Pine Prairie have established themselves as very solid teams to start the season.

Stage set for banner softball season

By: RHETT MANUEL Sports Editor It’s shaping up to be a potential banner season for softball in Evangeline Parish. As of press time on Friday, March 8, each of the four teams in The Gazette’s immediate coverage area are boasting strong winning percentages.

By: TONY MARKS Editor PINE PRAIRIE - After winning its first four games of the season, the Sacred Heart baseball team went 1-3 in the Northwood - Shreveport Tournament with losses to Class 5-A schools Benton (10-1) and Parkway (10-0) and a win against Class 2-A school Winnfield (12-6).

Fairview Lady Panthers win 15th state title

By: TONY MARKS LSN Sports Editor HAMMOND - When the history of girls’ basketball is written in Louisiana, there will be an appendix listing all of the Fairview Lady Panthers’ 15 state championships. The latest entry in that appendix came on Friday, March 1, as the team defeated Hicks 81-78.
