The Marks Post: Aztec or nah... Part deux

Since I wrote my last column, I have been binge watching The Curse of Oak Island. This show is a lot to take in with several wild theories. Before I get to a couple of the theories, let me put things into historical context.
The Knights Templar are believed to have recovered the Ark of the Covenant, the Holy Grail, and the Golden Menorah from the first Temple in Jerusalem while fighting in The Crusades. They, according to tradition, brought these artifacts to their temple in France.
At the height of the Templars, King Philip of France became envious of their wealth and conspired with the pope to persecute the Knights. The Templars were then labeled heretics, tortured, and killed.
Some escaped persecution and are believed to have taken their wealth and the religious artifacts to Scotland. From there, the Templars sailed to Nova Scotia to keep their treasures safely hidden. One interesting fact is “Nova Scotia” is Latin for “New Scotland.”
As for The Curse of Oak Island, one of the theories suggests the Templars buried their treasures on the island. This is plausible because the island, off the coast of Nova Scotia, is located on the Atlantic trade routes.
Another theory is somewhat less plausible. This theory suggests the ancient Phoenicians recovered the Ark of the Covenant and the Menorah after the Babylonians sacked Jerusalem some 500 years before Christ. The Phoenicians then sailed to Oak Island and stored the artifacts. I know the Phoenicians were skilled mariners who sailed up and down The Mediterranean, but this theory is a little bit of a stretch.
Also a little bit of stretch is the belief William Shakespeare included hints to the Oak Island mystery in some of his manuscripts. Shakespeare was supposedly connected with the Rosicrucians, which are an offshoot of the Knights Templar like the Free Masons.
There are other theories about what is buried on Oak Island and who buried it. But, one in particular, connects back to my previous column and has to do with the Aztecs. Yes, the Aztecs.
Ok, hear me out. According to one researcher, the Mayans are believed to have mined for blue clay on Oak Island. The blue clay is not native to Central America and is known to have been used in Mayan pottery and medicine. The Aztecs, then, learned of the mines on Oak Island and supposedly buried their vast riches on the island when the Spanish came and conquered their empire. Also buried on the island is Montezuma himself, if you believe the theory.
This, in my opinion, is far fetched. But, there could be some plausibility if you take into account I believe the investigators found a Templar coin in Utah on a past episode of Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch. If you remember my previous column, it is believed Aztec treasure is buried on the ranch. The Aztecs could have obtained Templar coins on Oak Island and brought them back to Utah.
I am hooked on both of these mysteries, partly because I want to see how far deep down the rabbit hole they get. All good things come in threes, so expect a third column on this as I watch more episodes of The Curse of Oak Island and Mystery of Blind Frog Ranch. Hey, there is nothing else to watch on TV anyway. I could, instead, write a series of columns on Snooki and Jwoww. You will thank me later for that.
Oh, by the way, Merry Christmas.
